With Amazon Fire TV, you can take videos from your iPhone’s small screen and project them to your big-screen TV. Unlike mirroring, casting won’t display everything on your iPhone, so you can still use your smartphone to control your TV wirelessly, almost like a remote. Here’s everything you need to know about how to cast from an iPhone to a Fire TV device, and what to do when it isn’t working.
How to Cast From an iPhone to Fire TV
To cast videos from your iPhone to a Fire TV, open a video on your smartphone and tap the Cast icon, which usually looks like a rectangle with semi-circles emanating from the bottom-left corner. Finally, select your Fire TV device to start casting.
- Turn on your Fire TV device. Depending on your TV, you might be able to start casting while your TV is still off, but it usually helps to turn it on first.
- Then, open a video on your smartphone and tap the “cast” button. This icon usually looks like a rectangle with three semi-circles emanating from the lower-left corner. You will usually see it in the top-right corner of the video player, but you’ll usually need to tap the video before it appears.
- Finally, select your Fire TV device to start casting. If you don’t see your Fire TV device listed, check out the tips below.
Once the video is casting, you can use the on-screen controls on your iPhone to control the playback, skip to a new video, increase the volume, and more. When you want to stop casting, tap the cast icon again and select This iPhone.
Can’t Cast to Fire TV?
If you are having trouble casting from your iPhone to a Fire TV, make sure both devices are connected to the same WiFi network. Also, you need to have the app you are casting from installed on both devices and signed into the same account.
How to Check Your WiFi Network on Fire TV
To check the WiFi network on your Fire TV device, press the home button on your Fire TV remote and go to Settings > Network and look for which network is listed as “Connected.” Then, make sure the device you want to cast from is connected to the same WiFi network.
- Press the home button on your Fire TV remote. Press this button until you see the Fire TV home screen.
- Then, go to Settings. You will find this under your profile icon on the far-right side of the menu bar. You can access it by pressing the right-directional button on your remote.
- Next, select Network.
- Finally, check which WiFi network says Connected. This will usually be the top option on the list.
If all else fails, you can also try restarting your Fire TV device or resetting it to factory settings and trying again.
