How to Change Your Location on Alexa

Recently moved? Still getting weather and traffic alerts for your old address? Here’s how to change your location on Alexa devices or your Alexa account so your updates and notifications stay accurate.

How to Change the Location of an Alexa Device

To change the location of a device, open the Alexa app and tap the light bulb icon at the bottom of the screen. Then select an Alexa device and tap the gear icon in the top-right corner of the settings pop-up. Finally, go to “Device Location,” enter a new address, and tap “Save.”

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap the light bulb icon. You will see this at the bottom of your screen (it might also be labeled as “Devices”).
  3. Select a device. If you don’t see your device listed, tap “Device Type” and select “Echo & Alexa.” Then tap “Apply” to filter out all other types of smart devices.

    Note: When you change the location of an Alexa speaker, it will also change the location of your connected devices (like smart lights, smart plugs, etc.). However, you will need to change the location of all your smart speakers individually.

  4. Tap the gear icon. You will see this in the top-right corner of the pop-up settings menu.
  5. Next, select “Device Location.” You will need to scroll down to see this option.

  6. Finally, enter a new location and tap “Save.” Use the search bar at the top of the screen to enter a new address.

    Note: If you want to change the country, tap “Advanced Search” and then select “Change” next to the country.

    Note: Each Alexa device has its own location setting, which affects weather, time zone, and location-based routines. So, you’ll need to change the location for all your Alexa speakers individually.

If you’re still getting incorrect weather or traffic updates, you might need to update your default account location instead.

How to Change Your Default Alexa Locations

To change the default location on your Alexa devices, open the Alexa app and tap the three-line icon at the bottom of the screen. Then go to “Settings > Your Locations.” Finally, choose a location and use the search bar at the top of the window to enter a new address.

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap the three-line icon at the bottom of your screen. (it might also be labeled as “More”).
  3. Select “Settings.”

  4. Go to “Your Locations.”
  5. Choose a location. You can also select “Add Location” to create a new location for your Alexa account.

  6. Finally, enter a new location and tap “Save.” Use the search bar at the top of the screen to enter a new address.

    Note: If you want to change the country, tap “Advanced Search” and then select “Change” next to the country.

If that doesn’t fix it, you might need to disable old Alexa skills that still use your previous address.

How to Turn Off Alexa Skills

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap the three-line icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select “Settings.”

  4. Go to “Notifications.”
  5. Select a notification type. Find a weather or location-based skill (like “MyRadar NOAA Weather Radar”) that might still be sending notifications.

  6. Finally, toggle off all notification options for that skill.

If you’re still having trouble, try resetting your Alexa device to factory settings. When you set it up again, make sure to enter your new address.
