How to Restore Recently Closed Chrome Tabs

To restore the last tab that was closed in Chrome, press Control (Ctrl) + Shift + T (on a Windows computer) or Command (⌘) + Shift + T (on a Mac). You can press these keys multiple times to restore additional tabs in the order they were closed.

How to Restore Old Chrome Tabs

To restore Chrome tabs that you didn’t close recently, press Control (Ctrl) + H (on a Windows computer) or Command (⌘) + Y (on a Mac). Then, click “By date” at the top of the window and select the webpage you want to restore.

Note: You can also access this screen by entering chrome://history into the address bar at the top of a Chrome window.

How to Restore Chrome Windows

To restore a recently closed window, open Chrome and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Then, click “History” and select “[number] tabs.” Finally, click “Restore window” to open all the tabs from the window at once.

Note: This method only lets you restore up to the last eight closed tabs or windows.

1. Open a Chrome window and click the three-dot icon. You will see this in the top-right corner of your screen.
2. Click “History.” This will show you the past eight tabs and windows that were closed.
3. Select a recently closed window from the list. Chrome will show your recently closed windows by how many tabs they contained (for example, “36 tabs”).
4. Finally, select “Restore window.”

Note: If you want Chrome to always reopen your tabs on startup, enter chrome://settings/onStartup into the address bar and select “Continue where you left off.“ That way, all your tabs and windows will reopen the next time you launch Chrome.

Note: To ensure Chrome remembers all your windows, make sure to shut the browser down by clicking the three-dot icon in the top-right corner and select “Exit” or “Profile > Close this profile (XX windows).“

How to Save Your Chrome Tabs Forever

To save your Chrome tabs, right-click a tab and select “Add tab to group > New group.” Then, enter a name and color for the group. Finally, click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of a Chrome window and select “Tab groups > Open group” to restore your tabs.

Note: Chrome groups let you save and reopen tabs anytime you want. Just keep in mind—Chrome only remembers your groups as they were when you last closed the browser. So if you delete a tab from a group, it won’t be there the next time you open Chrome.

1. Right-click a tab in your Chrome browser.
2. Select “Add tab to group.”
3. Click “New group.” From here, you can also add tabs to existing groups.
4. Name the tab group. Enter a group name into the text field (or leave it blank). From here, you can also change the color of your tab group.
5. Click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of a Chrome window.
6. Select “Tab groups” and choose your group.
7. Finally, select “Open group.” All the tabs in your group will be restored the way they were the last time you closed Chrome.

You can also save your tab groups to the bookmarks bar, so they’re always easy to access at the top of your Chrome window. To do this, enter chrome://settings/appearance into the address bar at the top of your screen and enable “Show bookmarks bar” and “Show tab groups in bookmarks bar.”
