How to Change Alexa’s Name with Voice Commands

To quickly change Alexa’s name, you can simply say “Alexa, change your wake word.” Your smart speaker will respond with, “Okay, you can choose from: Amazon, Computer, Echo, or Ziggy. Which of these do you like?” Then, say the wake word you want to use.

Note: You can only change Alexa’s name on one device at a time, so you’ll need to repeat these steps for each Alexa device individually.

• Ziggy: The best wake word to prevent false triggers because it’s uncommon and doesn’t sound like many other words.
• Amazon: Often mentioned when talking about the company or the rainforest.
• Computer: A common word that can be mistaken for similar-sounding terms like “consumer” or “commuter.”
• Echo: Might be misheard as words like “hello” or “espresso.”

How to Change Alexa’s Name with the Alexa App

To change Alexa’s wake word, open the Alexa app and tap the three-line icon at the bottom of your screen. Then go to “Settings > Device Settings” and choose an Alexa speaker. Finally, tap the gear icon, select “Wake Word,” and choose a new name for Alexa.

1. Open the Alexa app. If you don’t already have the app on your smartphone or tablet, you can download it from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

   Note: You can only change Alexa’s name in the app if your smart speaker is linked to your Amazon account.

2. Go to “More.” This is the three-line icon at the bottom of your screen.
3. Select “Settings.”
4. Tap “Device Settings.”
5. Choose an Alexa device.
6. Tap the gear icon. You will see this in the top-right corner of your screen.
7. Select “Wake Word.” You will need to scroll down near the bottom of the page to see this option.
8. Choose a new name for your Alexa device. Currently, you can choose from four alternatives: Amazon, Computer, Echo, and Ziggy.
9. Finally, tap “OK” to change Alexa’s name. It can take a few minutes for Alexa’s name to change. To test the new name, just ask your smart speaker a simple question like, “Ziggy, what time is it?”
